Analysis of WHO CARES ABOUT THE POET? (OR WHO KILLED THE CAT?)

WHO CARES ABOUT THE POET? (OR WHO KILLED THE CAT?)

The footsteps of the night
A figure seen fleeing
A brilliant flash of light
Ends all that is being

Morbid curiosity, it killed the cat
It'll kill you and me as well
They say we can't really know that
Till we see the fires of Hell

But my Faith is based on what I know
I look at the pages of past history
All the facts point and show
The reality of Resurrected Glory

Look through the smoke and ashes
Past the bright flames of burning fires
Beyond the sight of mighty clashes
See the true Face of man's desires

The Darkness covers the night
Sinful pleasures and hidden deeds
As we all stumble without the Light
And fall in the disgrace of greed

We grab blindly at the bitter fruit
And blame God for the taste
In the Light its seen as sins bitter root
Its all such a foolish waste

We hear screams in the night
We want a price of that pie
But we spurn the Holy Light
Curiosity killed the cat, so we die
³
The temptations always the same
Whether the Poet in his quiet place
Or lovers playing their game
We all want to make our own grace

Our own grace, so we eat the fruit
Repent at once and do it twice more
All we get is a mouthful of soot
And slide further than before

There is a Grace that never binds
But releases our desires, sets us free
This Grace darkness never finds
But shines a Light for all to see

Go to the Light, and find this Grace
Not because I say, who cares about the Poet?
But go and seek God's Face
Know the answers you'll never forget
AMEN

About this poem

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? Romans 6 1-3
