Analysis of When you can't fall asleep at night

Kaunain Fatima 2003 (Lucknow)

When you can't fall asleep at night,
Take a seat in your balcony,
Wrap up all your cares in lavender and set them aside for a while.

When you can't rest your head on your pillow,
Stay quiet and listen to the birds singing in the dark,
It is a reminder that there is still beauty around us,
Especially in the most unexpected places.

When slumber evades you at night,
Feel the cold wind blow through your hair and caress your skin,
You will find out why they say, 'Life's about the little, ordinary things'.

When you cannot drift off as usual,
Listen to the sounds of the trucks rushing past on the highway,
It is proof of how life goes on even if the world sleeps in the dead of the night.

When Morpheus refuses to take you in his arms,
Look at the gorgeous sky full of stars,
They seem to be gently whispering, 'You're not the only one awake'.

When the doorway to the land of nod is stuck shut,
Get a cup of coffee and a book,
As you watch the steam slowly rise from the cup,
You will realise that a companion doesn't have to be a person.

When you can't go out like a light,
Breath in the scent of plants along with the night air,
It will remind you that in this world full of chaos, there are still things worth living for.

When you are tossing and turning in bed,
Write by the light of a dancing candle flame,
Watch as it flickers and plays like your fancies,
Let your poetry and stories be a place where one can always turn to for comfort.

When you can't fall asleep at night,
Count all the friendships, love, sunsets, stars, moments and memories that make your life,
Wonderful things things that make who you are,
Believe me, it'll make you fall in love with the night too.
