Analysis of Bingo the Blue Flamingo

Jill Johnson 1961 (Pocatello, Idaho)

Down the road, not far away
Is a place I like to play
I go there every single day
To see my blue Flamingo

Bingo Blue is from the zoo,
where people just like me and you
used to stand in line for a day or two
just so they could get a view
of a lovely Blue Flamingo

Every day she’d draw a crowd
As she stood there tall and proud
Sometimes it was very loud
For a bonny blue flamingo

One day when I was walking by
I heard our little bingo sigh
She brushed a feather from her eye
And then I even saw her cry!
What’s wrong with the blue Flamingo

I ran quickly to her side
And I held my arms out big and wide
You need a friend I cried
You beautiful Blue Flamingo

Bingo came and hugged my neck
And playfully began to peck
You’re right she said, I am a wreck
I’m a lonely blue Flamingo

Well I knew this would never do
I had to save our baby blue
She really needed a friend or two
So she’d be a happy blue flamingo

It wasn’t long ‘til I hatched a plan
I’d put Bingo in my van
We’d run away, it would be grand
Just me and my blue flamingo

Everything was going great
And just as it started getting late
I parked beside the farmer’s gate
To rest my blue flamingo

And when the sun began to rise
What did I see before my eyes?
It couldn’t have been a bigger surprise
It was a farm for blue flamingos.
