Analysis of A Dream of July
Nancy H Palmer 1955 (Dallas, Texas)
I dreamed of summer,
Of the green in July,
The brilliance of the flowers,
The blue of the sky,
The song of the cicadas
In the long afternoons,
The music of the crickets
Beneath a silvery full moon,
The sigh of the wind
In the tall white grass,
Its warm, whispery kisses
On my cheeks as it passed,
The lush, languid feeling
Of each glorious day,
It is in this season
My heart longs to stay.
But each July gently slips from my grasp,
I know each time it cannot last,
In the dark of winter on a cold, clear night,
I dream of summer and its days of light.
