Read the following!!!! Very important!!!!
Dear Activist,

Earlier this year, the world watched as the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded, spreading oil throughout the Gulf of Mexico and resulting in the deaths of both people and marine species, lost jobs, and devastated natural habitats. The oil spill was a sobering reminder of the dangers of offshore drilling and makes clear the need for improvements in our ability to prevent oil spills and to respond effectively when one occurs.

Tell members of the U.S. Senate that reforms are needed to help American workers and local economies, and to protect our country’s marine resources and most charismatic species.

For the United States, the challenges related to drilling would be greatest in Alaska a region targeted for oil and gas drilling next year. Due to Alaska’s remoteness and extreme weather, the ability to respond effectively to a drilling disaster there is near-impossible. If a spill occurs, Alaska’s most important species including polar bears, walruses, sea otters, and the fish that make up vital fisheries would be gravely impacted.

Take action today: Urge your senators to pass the Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Company Accountability Act of 2010 a bill that will help Alaska and the nation.

While offshore oil and gas activity is inherently risky, offshore drilling is far more dangerous than it need be. Laws overemphasize expedient development and the federal agency in charge is too close to the industry it regulates. We also lack a coherent system to ensure sensible planning and ocean resource protection that takes into account the multiple services our oceans can provide.

It is time for the United States to move beyond dirty fossil fuels. But as long as oil and gas remain a component of our energy mix, Congress needs to better safeguard our energy workers, oceans and coastal economies. It’s time for a change in the way the nation approaches offshore oil and gas development and ocean conservation overall.

Send a message to your senators that we can help prevent another oil spill like the Gulf of Mexico disaster by passing the Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Company Accountability Act of 2010.

Thank you for everything you do on behalf of conservation.

Sincerely,
