Analysis of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a journey
most of us must travel this path
we do it not for the person who caused the hurt
but for ourselves in order to heal

It is a long and exhausting trial
 if it was easy it would not be worthwhile
in order to move on, we have to grant mercy
in our minds, we may forgive but we never forget

You harmed me in so many ways
whether it be rape, sexual assault, physical violence, verbal abuse, emotional storming, or some other aggression
I took it for so long and never told a soul

I will not allow you to tear my heart
 own my soul,  rip apart my mind any longer
 I will learn to forgive you
not for your sake but for mine

It will be hard to exonerate you of your crimes
because you did not care about the pain you inflicted
or the torment you caused
I was your whipping post with no thought

For my sake, I will let you off of your transgressions
but I will steel myself against you
cut you out of my life
you no longer exist in my world

You are worth less than a piece of dust
that is what I consider you, it is a must
pond scum means more to me than you and your lust
I no longer trust so easily

I have issues every day
 I am a survivor and you will never get the best of me
for I have a backbone and I have loved ones
they will hold me up when I cannot stand

They will listen when I need to vent
lend their shoulder when I need to cry
hold my hand when I just don’t know why
be there for me always because they don’t hurt they love
