Analysis of Bus Ride

Carolyn Legg 1966 (Cambridge)

The morning air is thick and sticky as I stand impatiently with several strangers...
Waiting...

A large bright white and yellow bus, with a flashing sign that reads “I-93/Haymarket,” pulls up to the corner with a splash...

The windshield wipers frantically push spraying water from the drivers view...

Several people of various origin file onto the bus like zombies...

A plump man wearing a blue uniform and cap - Stares blankly as each person flashes their T-pass...

A man who resembles Sherlock Holms - Sits pensively reading his book at the back of the bus...

Expressionless faces stare out the foggy window...

An elderly, well dressed woman can’t help herself but stare at two women near by who are chatting quietly to themselves...

The raw smell of wet wool begins to suffocate what little air is available...

A young girl with curly red hair and freckles - Sits motionless as she listens passively to her Sony Walkman...

Colorful umbrellas lie on the damp floor as water slowly drips from them...

A handsome young man with crystal blue eyes fiddles with his wedding band...

A Seeing Eye dog sits patiently in front of his master, His long pink tongue hanging from the side of his mouth...

A vent on the roof spasmodically spits water in several directions...

Eyes gaze at one another not knowing...

The humming bus drowns out the outside noises of the rushing traffic...

One by one - Strangers file off the bus at their designated stop
Each face with a different expression
Familiar - Yet unknown...
