Analysis of I’m Light Skin
Sonja Huggins-Martin 1993 (SC)
I’m light skin
Your not a strong black woman
I’m light skin
My melanin might not be as dark as yours
But my mind is darker than yours
Your not a strong black woman
I’m light skin
From the bottom of my feet , to the top of my head , the roots that flows through my scalp like the air that i breathe , shows me
Your not a strong black woman
I’m light skin
No curves over here but the path i walk shows me every step that i can dream
I can accomplish whatever is thrown at me
I’m light skin
Your not a strong black woman
Beauty , poise , confidence, eager , intelligence, charisma && character
Why can i not be ?
Cause my melanin is light ?
Well that still doesn’t change anything
So yes i am light skin
&& I’m a strong black woman
Now move over && make room for me .
