Sin and Law
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
That which is good, bring death to me,
Sin produced death through what is good;
In order that sin what you see,
Beyond measure of what you should.
The Law is holy just and good,
Because the Law is spiritual;
But since carnal as sinful could,
And temptation is sensual.
That which I do I allow not,
Actions I do not understand;
Things I hate to do but are sought,
Adverse to what God does command.
If I do what not desired,
Then would I agree with the Law;
Which is good what God required,
Which prevents me having a fall.
It is no longer I who do,
Rather the sin that dwells within;
Being unable to construe,
Why I continue with this sin.
I know nothing good dwells within,
But wanting to do what is right;
The ability negates sin,
Causing me an internal fight.
I do not do the good I want,
Rather evil that I do not;
Because sin continues to taunt,
Guiding what the darkness has sought.
If I do what I do not want,
It is no longer I who do;
Since sin that dwells within will haunt,
For doing what God wants me to.
