Widow Support
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Do not rebuke an older man,
But encourage like a father;
That happened since their life began,
That has taken them much further.
Treat older women as mothers,
Younger women as your sisters;
Younger men as your brothers,
The clergy being ministers.
Treat everyone with purity,
Honor widows being widows;
Respect for their maturity,
With dignity that each one shows.
If a widow has a child,
Let them learn to show godliness;
God is pleased if they are mild,
When they are showing holiness.
Put your religion to practice,
For your family show caring;
Discipline for showing justice,
Rather teaching them in sharing.
She who is truly a widow,
Left alone, set her hope on God;
Supplication with prayers to show,
Enabled to honor and laud.
If she lives in pleasure is dead,
Self-indulgent while she lives;
Encourage to seek God instead,
With confession the Lord forgives.
Command these things in giving charge,
So that they are beyond reproach;
Allows salvation to enlarge,
When you let Jesus Christ to coach.
If anyone does not provide,
For the members of their household;
In the Lord they do not abide,
Their unsealed fate will then unfold.
