A Prayer
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
I was so glad when you said to me,
Let us go to the house of the Lord;
With feet within the gates to see,
In front of the One we adored.
Jerusalem as a city,
That is bound firmly together;
The gems and gold makes it pretty,
Where the believers can gather.
Where the tribes go up to the Lord,
As was decreed for Israel;
Able to be in one accord,
Within a place that is surreal.
Give thanks to the name of the Lord,
Standing before the judgment thrones;
The thrones of the house we afford,
Confessing to where God atones.
Pray for peace of Jerusalem,
May they be secure who loves you;
Beseech the Lord not to condemn,
That they remain faithful and true.
Let the peace be within its wall,
Security in its towers;
Prosperity that will not fall,
Rather keep blooming like flowers.
For everyone, I need to say,
My brothers, peace be within you;
Always give your trust and obey,
Doing as the Lord what you to.
For the sake of the House of God,
That the Lord will seek for your good;
Continue to honor and laud,
And in doing all that you should.
