Broken Wings

White wings I found upon the ground,
were broken to fly no more.
In my mind, I see them lift,
to rise above and soar.
What befell the creature?
Was it man or nature's work?
To crush a soul so small.
to maim and cause such hurt.
Kneeling beside it on the ground,
sad for deaths dread toll.
I buried it beneath the soil,
to rest deep in the lonely cold.
