Dear Dad

Porchia Allen 1979 (st Louis)

DEAR DAD

I know my time here wasn’t as long as you would have liked it to be,

I tried my best to stay out of trouble and make you so very proud of me,

You’ve always been there whenever I needed you to,

Never disappointing me no matter what I’ve taken you through,

You took excellent care of me and took time to show me so many things,

The love you’ve shown has meant more to me than anything,

I won’t have any more pain in this earthly body of mine,

Remember that after the rain, there’s always sunshine.

There will be times when think of me and it will make you sad,

Just know it has been a great pleasure to call you my “Dad”,

About this poem

It was inspired by the death of my friend's son. The words were flowing as if they were from his son's point of view
