Dark Pilot
Nocturnal angels await
Fade Fade Oh Weary eyes
Break all earthly bonds.
All knows darkness comes
Daylight holds no lasting joy
Night alone goes beyond.
Dark pilot awaits
Adieu oh Mortal flesh
Lying pale and Cold as stone
Farewell oh diurnal cravings
Lost in the smoke fall
No more will I slave to sin,
As I journey my Host to see
Pale horses await
A carriage for me in place
Pulled by the strength of quick shadows,
Visit me to His presence,
The One whose call I've honoured
Ride Ride All night
Tranquillity awaits
At a land fairer than day,
Devoid of stain and all that pains,
My Host for me awaits;
Adorned in sparkling white
Purified from all sinful dents
Grant me taste the tree of life
That Blissful breast my soul shall lay.
About this poem
"Dark Pilot", in the voice of the poet persona (a deceased person) likened death to a journey. He likens death to night, claiming that unlike the night, the day holds no true joy that lasts. He further likens death to various other elements and concepts. He tells the reader, inter alia, that he has been called by his 'Host' whom he hopes will grant him immortality from his tree of life.
