Subtle Manipulation in American Pop
Ian McCleary 1992 (Morris Plains, NJ)
American commercial radio practices in psychic manipulation better than the sirens on Odysseus and his crew.
Much more subtly than on The Manson Family cult.
I stood there watching the Pop Idol, being one of thousands in the crowd. Mostly lightshow's and pyrotechnics took up the space of the arena, which were interesting in themselves, but what I knew were props to hide the performers lack of talent.
Youth culture, the music of mainstream culture is this!
Nothing for more serious listeners who care for their minds to be stimulated in other ways.
There is not one place you will go in the world without American music blasting on the speakers club to club.
It has been transplanted everywhere, the music of America has fornicated with Europe.
Masking what other possibilities lie underneath
About this poem
The problem I have with American Contemporary mainstream music written into a poem.
