My Little Clown
Cheryl Scott 1959 (Indiana)
You came to me and was my little clown.
You'd run and play and take away my frown.
You came to me without any toys,
So I gave you a sock with a knot for your toy.
You'ld take your toy and throw on the air,
Running and playing like a breath of fresh air.
We'd come in the house I'd sit in my chair,
You'd sit on my feet, your nose in the air.
Every time I'd get up or go to throne,
I always knew I was never alone.
Through good days and bad I was always glad,
With my little clown I was never really sad.
You gave your love so willingly shared.
The pain I feel I'm so in despair.
You left this world and shattered my heart,
Now I'm broken in misery, I'm falling apart.
Not a single passing day goes by,
That I don't feel piercing pain inside.
Throughout my heart, body and soul,
There will never be another you, I know.
I stare at the empty couch where you laid,
Abandoned toys laying still, not being played.
The house is so empty I feel so alone,
I hate to do it but another needs a home.
I found another that was abandoned and alone,
To give a chance at a happy home.
But none can fill the hole in my heart,
That you left In me when you had to depart.
Time will ease my pain inside,
Deep within my heart and mind.
For now I will have to bid you goodbye.
But soon I will see you on the other side.
