Why go? Pew

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

I have to go to town today
But I don’t even know the way
Can’t understand the things I heard
Don’t comprehend a single word

These people speak with foreign tongues
With alien air they fill their lungs
I cannot understand their speech
Or put my trust in what they teach

What can we do?

Church attendance suffers not
Because the old men die
The widows get too busy
Or the children start to cry

The God of Israel watches
He takes note of what you say
The flock is still increasing
But from you they run away

They must not recognize your voice
It doesn’t sound like His
He told you teach the word of truth
But that’s not what you did

You like to tell your funny stories
You taught the flock to laugh
But when the tribulation came
They blew away like chaff

To build a good foundation
You must build it on the Rock
The love of Jesus Christ; the Truth
And God will bring the flock

They will come to hear you
If they recognize your voice
So, show the love of Jesus
Teach the truth and we’ll rejoice

Then your joy will be complete
You’ll see the flock increasing
Your Father always blesses you
When your ways to Him are pleasing
