Depression

Depression isn't loud
It's not sharp, or piercing
It isn't rough and grating
It's not outspoken or overbearing

It's in the waiting
The silence and the nothingness
That's what's violent
That's where I live
One day good and the next
Reminded
Of every single thing that I've ever done and at the same time feel dead inside like I'm...
Mindless.

Depression is a whisper
And a creaking step
And an untuned instrument
And a swearword yelled into an echo-less abyss.

It's homeless,
Unacknowledged,
Untreated,
Misunderstood,
Mismanaged,
Downplayed,
Stigmatized,
Sin caused it,
Be saved.

Depression is the marathon
That the runner gets no medal for
Just a pat on the back when I stop for a rest,
"Hey, you good? Nice to see a smile for a change."
And I think to myself,
"Yes, that's what the meds are for."
