Good Riddance
Favour Etumudo 1991 (Delta)
Dark soulless eyes
Reflecting frigid ice
glistening unshed tears
wielding deep sadness and fears
it wasn't always this way
once I was carefree and gay
giving my heart freely
innocent, naive and silly.
I was once brave
effortlessly I forgave
engraved in my soul was kindness
so fogged by loving blindness
to face reality and admit
your brazen terror to commit
your selfish whims and desire
shunning the truth, I became a liar
Muted by betrayal to act dumb
While you arrogantly strut with freedom
the unnecessary demand
disregard for my stand
the insolence and abuse
ready to give ludicrous excuse
why couldn't you put me first?
you were my ocean yet I thirst
stifled till you snuffed out my light
took my trust and left me in fright
said I'll never find anyone like you
but jokes on you, you had no clue.
Surfing through shame I rose again
like a storm beyond restrain
self-love fixed me bit by bit
piecing my broken self till I was fit
Now dark soulless eyes
stare coldly as ice
while you plead and grovel
can't believe I once wanted your approval
well karma certainly bites back
my nasty dispassion a throwback
of your hateful arrogance
and vicious dominance.
My smug soulful eyes
are unable to disguise
how your presence repulses me
the bile I repress if only you could see
did greener grass turn parched hay so soon?
to your theatrics I am immune
Regardless am the better one
plead no more, for we're done
glaring boldly unafraid I see
that I have found love in me
like a chrysalis, I thrived and evolved
stronger than ever am resolved
to forgive, indeed all is bygone
good riddance as I move on!
