False Doctrine and Human Greed
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Teach while urging of these things,
If someone teaches otherwise;
A different doctrine that brings,
Being darkness in a disguise.
Of a doctrine that does not sound,
Words of Jesus Christ our Lord;
Not of godliness to be found,
Far from being in one accord.
He is puffed up having conceit,
In being arrogant and proud;
As his words are full of deceit,
While being boastful and loud.
He always craves controversy,
While understanding nothing;
Words producing strife and envy,
And will cause evil surmising.
Constant friction among people,
Perversely deprived of the truth;
Never told of the true Gospel,
Wind up by becoming uncouth.
But godliness with contentment,
Will be bringing such a great gain;
Blocks any sign of resentment,
Possibly be causing you pain.
For you bring nothing to this earth,
And never take something away;
Naked you come into this earth,
Nothing to take on Judgment Day.
For if we have clothing and food,
With these things we should be content;
To maintain a good attitude,
With the blessings that God has sent.
But those who are tempted by wealth,
Harmful desires not to share;
Will be lacking spiritual health,
Which will trap them into a snare.
The love of money is a root,
That takes the path of evil ways;
For the craving for wicked fruit,
A person morally decays.
