Prophecy: A Superior Gift
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Do not think in childish ways,
Being infants in evil thought;
Rather mature one who obeys,
Following in what the Lord sought.
By people who have a strange tongue,
And the lips of foreigners speak;
Listen to what the Lord has flung,
To be righteous you need to seek.
Tongues are not signs for believers,
Prophecy for those who believe;
Because tongues can be deceivers,
For those who will never receive.
For the whole church comes together,
The unbelievers will enter;
Speaking in tongues as they gather,
But Jesus is not their mentor.
The unbeliever that comes in,
Is convicted by everyone;
Since they never confessed their sin,
And not having faith in the Son.
And thus the secrets of their heart,
Will cause them to fall on their face;
For the truth they cannot impart,
Never knowing God and His grace.
