The End

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

If you could live forever here,
And never show signs of aging.
Would you then be satisfied?
Or would your lusts keep raging?

You would have no hope of resting!
You would have to work to eat!
So, would your life be bitter?
Or would your life be sweet?

If you’re adorned with precious stones,
In mountings made of gold.
You think your beauty will not fade.
And you will not grow old.

You’re partly right and partly wrong,
As seen by all your friends.
It’s true that you will not grow old!
The sword will be your end!
