The Wish

Amanda littler 1976 (Pontefract)

If I could have just one wish, I know what it would be.
To have you back a little while,to say what you meant to me.
Although things sometimes happened, that saw us torn apart,
It didn’t mean I didn’t care. You were always in my heart.
Our relationship wasn’t perfect, but deep inside I knew
If I ever needed anything, I could always come to you.
But I don’t know how to say goodbye, I don’t know how to feel.
I’m not ready to lose you, to me it’s still not real.
So for now it’s see you later, and send you all my love.
Until it’s time to meet again in heaven up above.
You’ll be my guardian angel, that loves me like no other.
Who I’ll forever love and miss, my one my only mother.

About this poem

My mum passed away recently and I was looking for a poem for the funeral service. But none of them resonated with me. I had a turbulent relationship with my mum and all the poems I read did not describe our relationship so I wrote my own.
