The Day You Were Born

To Hezekiah, my baby boy and firstborn:

It was on February 26, 2021, in the small hours of the morning after your mother’s water broke. It was a struggle for 23 hours getting you into this world. We could hear your heartbeat beating at every pulse. You were scheduled to be born a month later, but God had another plan as you swam your way to the surface. Your mother pleaded for me to stand by her, I was zoned in and out of sleep, but I had to follow my duty as a husband and soon to be father.

You were not ready, your parents could tell, but your mother demanded you to come out. The doctor and nurses came in  the room telling your mother to push;

“I’m ready for him to come out!” was what she screamed trying to breathe.

Me and everyone encouraged your mother, “Push! You got it!”

“C’mon… push, push, push!”

That was the moment I saw your head. It was full of hair, full of life. I stood feeling the Spirit brush past me.
Then I heard your cry for the first time. You were tiny at 5 lbs. The doctors labeled you as a premie, but the Most High has given you strength. You were in my arms wondering about this new world, yet God has prepared you, for the days coming.
