Senator
SENATOR
Our senator is a man of many few words
His words foam like fresh palm wine.
Like the oblotutwu, the lazy bird of few many songs,
And the ichahoho masquerade of many few dance steps
With pretentious many steps
Suspending the admiring crowd.
He made us laugh at ourselves
At the festival of lies, he summoned us to,
His own laughter, mimicking our ignorant laughter
As his intention known only to him,
Was pregnant with his deceit
Like the sugar daddy hoodwinking the virgin
To death of her innocence.
I looked inside his laughter carpeting the dust of our ground
Grinning over our foolery at his grand deceit
Grown all over with new growth of its kind
As his dry scorched and impersonate words gulp the time.
Our Senator is magical at saying nothing
And doing nothing but holding us to his words
Which he can not be held to.
I heard promises of old, coloured anew
Which I wanted to challenge, but his magic
Got me shouted out, like there is a road and water
And school and scholarship all in his imagination
Which the crowd swallowed whole
With pockets full of empty promises again.
