St George's Dragon
SarahAlexandria 1984 (UK)
The slain beast who once did pound this earth
Now pounds my dreams, with his shield of fire and steel eyes
His body cold like stone, scales like fresh cut grass
And the being who stood so tall
Now walks beside the huge and gentle giant
Shining like a new penny, in his fearless suit
With his sword, sworn to protect my sleep
As I drift like death, through another door
Into another dimension
The heaving sound of his breath
The thumping sound of his heart
The piercing sound of his roar
The thunder, the shudder, of that door
The footsteps along the floor
The voice, which calls my name
The dream that fades, when daylight breaks
Upon, which my eyes awake
