Silence
Come sit down and here a story
of love and fear that ends in glory
my name is silent to your ear
yet my life is for you to hear
I was sixteen and much in love
of what I thought was from above
he told me I was just for him
I, that prize he wanted to win
His love then soon started to fade
replaced with what I would call hate
I turned to nothing in his eyes
his words so cold and full of lies
He brought my spirit way to low
paving a time for his first blow
his flaring temper gives a blast
across my face his fist went fast
I'm so sorry was what he said
poison words that my mind had fed
I don't know why that time I stayed
for I was just a game he played
Time went by, the abuse got worse
it had become his daily course
one he mastered with no regret
a good secret that I had kept
The pain of his hands I have felt
around my neck just like a belt
the force of each toe in my back
bruises all over like a track
I lived a life of silent fear
him teaching me to hold my tears
I lied to the world of my shame
he said to me I was to blame
He shaped my mind to fall so weak
and even if my words could speak
there was nowhere for me to turn
without the thoughts of fear that burn
He tried to make my spirit die
from all the pain and filthy lies
it took a lot for me to see
that leaving him was up to me
For six years until twenty-one
72 or more times it was done
every year I was counting down
the day I was no longer bound
Now you ask where is the glory
it's in the end of my story
Within every single years length
was one more year that gave me strength
The only thing I have left to say
is what I hold dear to this day
my name is survivor of abuse
and my story is for you to use.
