The Stranger

The Stranger

Who is that Stranger, that walks through the door?
Takes elevator D to the second floor.
I don’t believe I’ve seen Him before.
Who is He?

He walks into the foyer, and out through the hall.
Astride like a doctor, in time for a call.
I’ve never seen this Stranger so tall.
Who is He?

He walks past the station, the kitchen, and then,
He stops at the door, room twenty-one ten.
My Dad looks up, it’s that time again!
But who is He?

He puts down His satchel, steps up to Dad’s side,
With a beautiful smile, throws His arms open wide.
He hugs Dad so closely, and all fears subside.
Who is He?

As fast as He came, He is gone again.
But things are much different in room twenty-one ten.
Because of  His visit, Dad can face life again.
But who is He?

Now it’s two months later, and on another floor.
The Stranger again, has walked through the door.
This time Dad leaves with Him, to live ever more……

But now I know who that Stranger must be.
For on the way out, He put His arms around me!!

About this poem

I wrote this poem when my Father was in the hospital just before he passed. He told me that an angel entered his room each night to comfort him
