waves of life

as the sun takes a peek
hope within the clouds, I seek
above the sky is where I live

a horizon where the
sun and sea meet
I am shrouded in shadows
of the oceans' depth
where I find enough reasons
to survive and to breathe

but the raging waters
are enough to let the boat sink
for all of the grief that piles up
until it reaches the brink
hands and feet are numb
in fear and cold, I succumb
I would rather stay in the oceans' depth
than to beseech someone
and ask for help

the emotions drowned me in
in regrets I hide to not be seen
in the shallow mistakes is where I rest
I took pride in my pursuit of being the best
I would rather swallow this bitter taste
for I thought I was strong enough
to swim without a vest

it was a gloomy night
where I swam in the pond of my tears
filled with agonizing what ifs and fears
it was a gloomy night
when a bolt of lightning engulfed my chest
within the thunders was voice—
I wavered, I shuddered as I heard the noise

“worry not for I AM with you.”

the storms inside were
calmed by His grace
through the wind I felt
a warm embrace

it was the night when I realized
I was not alone
for every time I sail
He was the captain all along

it was the night when I saw the light
and as it opened,
the vast darkness felt just right
from all of the tears I shed
from the scars that bled—
they built a place
a refuge
and a solace
“you have sailed with tears
and you reach the island of hope.”
