Experience

My mind fractures under the weight of light
Nerves numb to the endless heat
Eyes glow with purple sight
Face young, tongue tender and sweet

Years past on a vast plane
Same as endless storms descending upon a black indigo sea
Experienced time becomes a great fane
For all brute conquerers to come and see
Birth’s green light turned great autumn trees
My hair caught in a warm winter’s breeze
All my expanse cut by a crone’s knife
And just as I breathe in true death, God sickens me with the peril of new life

About this poem

This poem is about a person who’s overwhelmed by the world and all of its possibility, they’re crushed by the weight of time, age, and experience.
