Whispers in the Mist
Malissa Martinez 1992 (CA)
Breeze in her hair,
salt taste on her lips.
She didn't even remember how she got there.
Even though the water came crashing,
the sound calmed her soul.
She's tried to break the habits, the thoughts,
but the trauma seems to always take its toll.
Closing her eyes, she can see the world behind her.
It's like living two lives, the one you had, and you have.
All she ever needed was someone to speak up on her behalf,
"Why has it always been like this?",
she whispers and a spray of mists slaps her face.
Deep breath, exhale, opening her eyes she sees the beauty,
there's nowhere on earth that gives her this feeling, like this place.
A sense of direction, calmness and purity she knows doesn't exist anymore.
The wind picks up and pushes her a little closer to the edge,
that unsettling feeling comes back as she steps away from the ledge.
Walking on the shore again she made herself a self-love pledge,
no matter what tomorrow brings she will stand tall, when life is too much...
she'll think of that day on the cliff, take a deep breath, close her eyes,
feel the mist on her cheeks and know that if she made it through that day,
she'll make it through any day, because she lost herself to the sea, but stepped back.
that dredged feeling was life calling her back and showing her the way.
All because of the whispers in the mist.
