Just another night

lilsteep12 2003 (lilongwe)

There was a time when a smile
Could cleanse it all,
A heart as tainted as mine.
But would you notice,
Could you discern it was you, in part,
Who rescued me from my desolate heart?
Would you fathom my intent and strive,
Unfit to feel,
like a desert's parched sand,
By day, I wither, by dusk, I withstand.
If I were to glow?
Would you know it was you,
Who pulled me out of my darkened home?
Would you?
To ignite a dull soul, so barely alive?

For slumber felt heavy alone.
Yet, you came along,
Cheerful as ever,
In silk, you glowed,
Surrounded by Eden.
Heavenly it was,
The thought, to write it all down,
But what would I say?
"I saw an angel in my dreams?"
And let them laugh?

Mock you?
Scoff at the thought of it?
Would they understand?
I think not.
And so, I'd rather keep you to myself,
Like a treasure, kept near, close to my chest,
So that when it beats, you'd know it's you,
You who the heavens so blessed me with,
And so I rush to bed,
Just to hold you again.
