To The One I Miss

When you were on your knees,
You were begging me not to go
I could see it in your eyes- misting, soft, alluring

I'd made a choice then, and I chose to go
to walk off, as though I didn't see you,
as though I didn't care

My lack of care, lack of sensitivity
has caught up with me
perhaps I am not sensitive enough to understand

Perhaps I will be waiting and confused for the rest
of my days
Many years later and I still wait-
but not because of you

not because you cared and vastly tried
but because I did not try
because I did not care enough

to listen, to wait,
to smile at you, to offer these hands to you,
for you to rise.
