Comfort in the warmth
I always think washing my clothes will help.
I gather the clothes that are stained,
the ones that aren't, but they were worn just a couple too many times,
the sheets, the blankets, the pillowcases, even the plushies on the bed.
I stripped my room naked of all cloth. And after hours spent on laundry,
sitting in a completely clean bed, wearing freshly dried clothes, it feels the same.
You feel the same as before your sheets were clean.
Still helpless, but now your blanket is warm.
About this poem
Sometimes poetry is a vent for the everyday struggles you go through. I remember being in a very dark and weird place, and nothing I did helped. I washed all of my clothes, my bedsheets, everything that could be washed, and exactly as the poem goes, nothing changed in me. But at least the blanket was warm, and it felt comforting. Step by step, one comfort a day, you'll get there again, you'll be you again.
