Squirrel World
When folks and squirrels cross common paths
Throughout a given day
The former tries to keep their nuts
The latter, takes away
Such taking first seems churlish
And begs some recompense
But then upon reflection
Soon, it starts to make good sense
For despite their boisterous chatter
And their scampering about
Within all the sense and measure
Locked behind that hawkish snout
Under mounds of fallen casings
Behind beady, bulbous eyes
Within those clutching, clasping claws
A pithy lesson lies
For when our nuts are taken
It is then we realize
The true value of the things we’ve lost
Through older, wiser eyes
And, so, we can be given
When the squirrels draw from our well
A worldly truth put simply thus:
In loss, great riches dwell
