In The Mirror

In truth, I don't know who to be.

I wanted to say that I'm sorry I'm me

Because, in truth,

I don't know who to be.

"Have you tried changing your face?"

That might be strange to ask,

But I can tell you it's possible.

Just, wear a mask!

If you know me, you'll know,

this is something I love.

To put on a mask,

 is a gift from above.

You don't have to know who to be,

You just need to know how to see!

Then look around at the people you meet

and act like them,

till they think it's concrete!

It's so easy to do,

and you don't have to think.

Just be who they are,

and be who they greet.

If you do this,

they'll think it's a treat!

But, don't look in the mirror,

that's the hardest part.

Because while the mirror won’t break,

it will shatter your heart.

When you look in the mirror,

there is no him, or her.

There is no he, or she.

There's only someone there,

that you don't know
how to be.

About this poem

I wrote this poem when I was having trouble with anxiety and had just lost a lot of people in my life. It expresses the feelings I felt when I was around them, and what I felt when I was alone.
