I Never Was
Claire Miller 1962 (Pittsburgh)
I never lived
I was not born
No one will care
No one will mourn
I’m not alive
I am not here
You will not find me
Anywhere
I’m not out there
I will never be
Please do not try
To look for me
I am the air
I am the light
I am a breeze
That cools the night
All around
As life abounds
You’ll hear my voice
In nature’s sounds
I am a force
I touch all things
And then I’m gone
On mem’ries wings
