they say your room is a reflection of your mind

I have been shamed
for my interests, grades, abilities,
and most recently,
the way I choose to decorate my bedroom. Fuzzy multicolored worms hang adjacent
to my oversized tapestry of Danny DeVito
an untrained eye would also see
measly wrappers of sour patch kids held up
by thumbtacks covering all 4 walls
but I see colorful imagery
Covering lifeless blank canvas walls.
Maybe my room is a reflection of my mind Maybe it’s a way to escape the reality of the mundane life I am living.
