Shadows of death

Phillip Alullo 1970 (United States)

When the sun goes down ,
       and there is no light,
I see shadows in the night.

    And when they move I
        hold my breath,
because they bring me visions of death.

Not of dieing , but of
     what's to be ,
and how much death really means to me .

I try to scare the shadows away ,  but they always return
     the very next day.

And so their visions I accept,
and deep down inside my fears are kept ,.

Awaiting the day no shadows I'll see,
For that is when dead I'll be ..
