Why

Why do you cast yourselves down,
Eyes of my most loved soul,
In the clarity of my fleshly heart?
I look to you always,
Cry out to you even,
Throughout most radiant days
Bordering the anticipation of dusk.
I spy your purest tears
Shining through the shadows of your face
To reveal the light of truest compassion.
I would that they stay forever.
Never could I know love without them.

I am a 29 year-old African American. I began writing poetry as a means to cope with depression and routine incarceration and now looking to put some of it out there to be hopefully enjoyed. Thank you. more…
