My Truth

There are so many things that I want to say
I just want to break away

But there is air in my lungs
And it is no fun

I feel like I can’t breathe
And you can’t see

Your eyes are open but closed at the same time
You pretend like I am fine

You hear me choke
But you think it is a joke

You laugh in my face
And tell me to be ok

So I with tears in my eyes
I don’t dare to cry

This is how my life always has been
There is no chance for me to win

I know it is not right
But there is no help in sight

I feel the pain from within
I feel it crawling in my skin

There is so much pain
I feel like I a going insane

You hear but don’t listen
Then you put me in a shitty position

You miss all of the words that come out of my mouth
I am so sick of this house

Then this rage starts to sprout
And it is dying to come out

I want to scream and shout
Tell you all of my doubts

I want you to listen to me mom
I know this sounds like a bomb

I am sorry for the way this sounds
And I don’t want to go rounds

This needed to happen
And I am sorry for your reaction

This is my truth
But I can’t live my youth

I can’t live with feelings
That are as high as the ceiling

Please forgive me mom
And try to stay calm

As I tell you my truth

About this poem

This poem is about not being able to say what they need to say. It is about being silenced and being told to suck it up. The narrator just continues to suck it up until they explode and let’s out their truth.
