Maybe One Day
Maybe One Day
“How hard can it be to love yourself?”
She asks herself, the question echoing in the caverns of her heart.
Already knowing the answer, a whisper laced in doubt.
Is it that easy?
Isn't it selfish to put others behind?
Or is it how it is supposed to be?
They say loving yourself is the best feeling,
but how does one love themselves?
She is lost in the maze of self-doubt, wondering if she'll ever reach the endpoint.
Her hand reaches to touch the reflection, seeking solace in her own silent battles.
“You're not enough,” a voice scoffs.
“Always lost in her own thoughts, can't she be normal?” another jeers.
“Why can't you be more like her?” comes a stinging sneer.
She stands there now,
In front of her is a familiar girl.
She sees her every day, yet it is always a different feeling that clouds her,
Envelops her mind, thoughts, and everything rational and logical.
“Don't let what others say get to you.”
But how does one ignore the voices when they surround them from every corner?
Is there a mantra or spell you say to do it?
Is that how some people seem so happy? Without any restrictions,
Without caring what others think because it is not their life to butt in?
She wonders.
A sad smile graces her face,
Her fingers tremble as she catches a tear before it falls.
“Maybe a time will come when I'll love you as they say.”
“Maybe one day, the sun will shine just right to reflect its golden light on you.”
“Maybe then, the whispers will fade and I'll treat you with kindness you deserve.”
“Maybe one day won't just be a phrase, it will finally be ‘time,’ where I don't have to look for borrowed love, after all.”
