One Last Kiss Goodnight

One Last Kiss Goodnight

Before you lay down tonight
Think on these truths and dream
I am huddled against dread and fright
The unknown of a troublesome scheme
An outcome out of my hands
Untold certainty beyond measure
Dark and black before my vision
Without security or treasure.

I am homeless outside and cold
While you lay warm and fed
Able to sleep with a full belly
As I wonder will I wake or be dead
City streets and sidewalks
The landscape of the most lonely
And shadows with snoring and sick
Ignored by the rich and holy.

Where does shame truly lie
With the plenty or with the poor?
The one with something to give
Or the empty hand who must endure?
If we were to switch places
Then we would be begging for sure
One last kiss goodnight is not
Enough to make a soul pure.
