The Mask I Wear

Lindy Kabealo 2010 (South Carolina)

I'm stuck with myself
In a room feeling unseen
Constantly putting myself out there
Out there for others to notice
To see

To notice my laughs not my cries
Notice my mask that I created
The one that is not as hated

Before I was different, odd
Not cool like people are

But since I made this mask

Now I am seen as this person
Followed by a cool breeze
Not a flaming ball of fire
Struck like a match without ease

Well, the mask is on
Not ready to leave
I'm glued to this identity others now believe

About this poem

A mask that is created to hide the true colors of one.
