Mirror
Dr. Bob Newport, Los Angeles, November 6, 2020 1939 (Rockford)
Mirror
Should you look into the mirror
On this election morn
And see, in bright and glittery light, hail fellow well met
And should you, should you just
Wonder about the nature of quicksilver, oh slippery, mercurial metal behind the mirror
And in your wondering, dig a little
You might see a dark underbelly clouding that hail fellow
And if you go a little deeper you may be surprised to see
Your spouse, your beloved,
Your children, your neighbor from across the tracks,
And even the fearsome others .... see them as well.
Now, my friend, take just one more layer off, one step further, and if you dare,
See
the bright light
of God.
