What I Want
I have wanted you
Since I first met you
Six years ago.
I didn’t know you,
but I know you now.
I didn’t know what I was feeling,
But I know now.
A week out of a year,
and yet I thought about you every day.
Now I see you every day
And there is no way to get you out of my mind.
Do I love you? I don’t know.
Can I love you? I know I can.
Do you love me? I can’t say.
Can you love me? Only time will tell.
I want you to see me.
I want you to see my eyes sparkling when you laugh
And glassy when you’re down.
I want you to know how much a high-five means to me,
even when everyone is doing it.
I want to be there for you when she breaks your heart,
Just like all the others before her.
I want you to be my first kiss.
I want to play video games with you,
to lay my head in your lap while I read a book.
I want you to hold me close while we watch a movie.
I want to hug you when I’m sad,
to kiss you when I’m happy.
I want you to be my first boyfriend,
And my last.
I want to speak God’s holy vows with you,
In front of everyone I love.
I want to spend the rest of my days with you.
I want you to carry me to our bedroom on our wedding night,
to say my name in low and husky voice,
to be as scared, and as excited,
As I am.
I want you to take my hands and whisper sweet nothings as you kiss me.
I want your hands to shake as you take off my gown.
I want our chests touching,
And my ankles crossed at your tailbone.
I want you sheathed inside me,
And your arms as a protective cage around me.
I want a hand in your hair,
And another at the nape of your neck.
I want our kisses to be feathersoft,
Then ravenous.
I want to fall asleep in your arms
every night,
And I want to wake up in them.
I want to bear your children,
beautiful little blue eyes, and curly brown hair.
I want to raise them with love,
And in God’s Word.
I want to see the pride glowing on your face
At the first loose tooth,
When they play in chapel,
When there’s a confirmation,
When they win a medal in a sport,
When they receive a letter,
When they graduate,
When they marry.
When I get mad at you,
I don’t want to stay that way.
I want to write songs for you,
And books.
I want to see your grin everyday in my life.
I want to go on walks with you in retirement,
Our fingers intertwined,
And our hands swinging.
I want your kisses up until the day we leave this earth.
I want your gentle love,
And your hungry need.
I want to be wanted
By you.
