The Homeless Man

Lynford Dennis 1956 (Spanish Town)

Along came the homeless man,
Walking aimlessly as he can.
Sweat falling off his bald head
Carrying a worn out bag,
As heavy as lead.
With the hot sun pelting,
His tattered shoes seem to be melting
To the park he hurried, rest at last
Under a tree,so weary, sleep came fast.
Halfway in a dream he heard a scream,
Just a bird above,sqauking, screeching.
Evening has fallen, for his bag he is reaching.
It's time for his journey to the subway,
At nights it's home and a place to stay.
