The Old Me

Sam Vanklompenberg 2003 (Grand Rapids)

I wasn’t always quiet and shy
but something happened
and the old me said goodbye

hearing voices swirling in my head
every time I go to bed

closing my eyes only to remember
my life will never be together

putting on a mask to hide my pain
but people tell me I’m not the same

pushing it down deep inside me
but it always comes up to find me
gets into my head and thoughts
that’s when I began to feel lost

now I’m filled with all these emotions
I got a get my life back into motion
why I’m I like this, what happened to me
the old me was filled with so much glee
the pain, the guilt, the stress, the lost
I can’t control my own thoughts
this isn’t me, this was never me
but that’s all everyone will ever see
