Something Is Gained
Cherry blossoms lash furiously at my face
Unheard and unseen yet,
Gentle in their wrath
I feel from this day
That the water shall freeze,
Light shall slow and clouds blot out the warmth
That the sun brings irregularly
This time of year.
And what have I learned?
Fall quickly and softly
If you choose to fall,
But don't fall at all.
Something melts when it hits a cheek,
Something burns,
Yet it is soft.
Cotton from my shirt
Dangling and floating away
On unseen currents
Disregarding the rest of the heavenly debris,
Someone may catch it and make a wish
And I shall grant it.
When a life ends,
Another begins to take its place.
Someone died so that I may live
And I will thank them with this line,
A moment of silence for my fallen comerade.
Breathe again, our moment is over
But there are many more to come.
Each exhale is a new life,
Each inhale is one ending,
Absorb their energy,
They would have gladly given it.
Sometimes air bites,
If it is chilling or too hot.
The thing is intanglible
Unless it drapes,
And I feel from this day
That something is gained.
An understanding, a faith.
Show me, teach me,
Learn,
I have much to teach.
I have much to learn
And who better to learn from
Than the air itself?
Androgynous in its existence,
Showing light and dark,
Both good and evil,
If those poles are a reality.
And what have we learned?
Ask aloud,
Listen carefully
And let the cherry blossoms lash
Regardless of the fact
That the moment may never come.
But why should it?
If we are waiting for our entire lives,
We are waiting for death.
Have you the audacity to waste the life
That was given?
With every breath,
Remember that a life was given
For yours to exist.
Do not mourn, however,
It was their time,
As it was yours
And there are no regrets in nature.
Cherry blossoms lash furiously at my face
Unheard and unseen yet,
Gentle in their wrath
I feel from this day
That something is created.
