Sunbird on the plain
To send a poem, our present songs
Must pierce the heart for continuing echoes
To address the inner eardrums without breaking it
Nor exhausting our stock.
To watch us move, I promise a monument
Standing erect for a disco anthem directly to the backbone
Of the soul without explications.
And until harvest time shall our slit tongues whisper ungagged
Not perchance who smother the triumph of art unassuaged
But who look at the poet like they're his parents
Sees the mirror clear and able to sift the herb from weeds
Knows the man from the masquerade despite the distances.
Report next for extraterrestrial dancing,
Dance of the lyrical lines
Singing all the day, singing all the nights
The dance of destiny, the dance of our heritage
Though homely in attire
May touch the heart a thousand ways
Yet an invisible voice, never seen.
